Here’s what you need to know about Sigma’s new lenses.

Sigma has announced three new Art lenses and a 100-400mm f5-6.3 ultra-telephoto zoom all of which are available for pre-order immediately. It’s hard for us to tell which of these will be the most popular with photographers because they are all strong and impressive offerings covering a broad range of photography styles.

The four new lenses are:

  • SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art
  • SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | Art
  • SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM
  • SIGMA 135mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art

See what we mean? It’s hard to pick a favourite! We are perhaps most excited for the 24-70mm F2.8, which looks to be an incredibly useful lens for most shooting situations, covering the wide-to-slightly-telephoto range at 2.8 throughout and with SIGMA’s optical stabilisation technology baked in. But, then again, it’s hard not to be excited about the opportunities the other three lenses allow for as well!

Read on for more details about each new lens.

SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM – the ultra-wide-angle lensjpeg-14mm-f1-8-002Experience new dimension of vision with this high-speed lens

Starry skies at night and seashores with a wide perspective need a large diameter lens that allows you to capture fast moving subjects by adjusting the shutter speed without increasing ISO sensitivity and this is exactly what this lens provides. With its full 35mm frame coverage, 14mm focal length for an ultra-wide angle of view, F2 barrier-breaking F1.8, the SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art is the high-speed ultra-wide-angle lens many photographers have been waiting for. Although some zoom lenses are available that can cover 14mm, the large diameter delivering F1.8 brightness is an exceptional advantage. Going beyond fast shutter speed, this lens can capture a swarm of fireflies with crystal clarity, create beautiful bokeh effect and deliver outstanding control of light streaking.

SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art combines the extremely deep depth of field that comes from an ultra-wide angle of view with the super shallow depth of field that comes from F1.8 brightness. The result is a sharply captured subject set against a vast background dramatically blurred with a beautiful bokeh effect. It is a highly impressive mode of photographic expression that until now simply has not existed.

Outstanding image quality from the centre of the image to the edges is achieved with three FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass elements and four SLD (Super Low Dispersion) glass elements that help to minimise transverse chromatic aberration and effectively reduce distortion, which tends to be noticeable in shots taken with ultra-wide-angle lenses.

Other features include:

  • Fast AF with full-time manual override
  • Compatible with Mount Converter MC-11
  • Available SIGMA USB DOCK
  • Available Mount Conversion Service
  • Rounded diaphragm
  • Designed to minimise flare and ghosting
  • High-precision, durable brass bayonet mount
  • Evaluation with SIGMA’s own MTF measuring system “A1”
  • The lens barrel is engraved with the year of release

SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM – top performer for high megapixel camerasjpeg-24-70mm-f2-8-os-002The definitive large-diameter standard zoom lens for any shoot

What photographers demand from any 24-70mm F2.8 lens is much more than outstanding image quality. They want all the features that make this a go-to lens for a wide range of photographic opportunities. This new 24-70mm F2.8 lens from SIGMA delivers performance and functionality that help professionals succeed in photo journalism, nature and many other fields of photography.

Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass lens elements and four aspherical lens elements help minimise optical aberrations. To ensure outstanding image quality from the centre to the edges of the photograph, the optical system minimises coma, which causes points of light to streak, and transverse chromatic aberration, which cannot be corrected via aperture control.

At wide-open aperture, this lens offers outstanding photographic expression. The area in focus is extremely sharp, while the background exhibits a beautiful bokeh effect with only slight spherical aberration. Since large-diameter zoom lenses are often used at wide-open aperture, SIGMA has paid close attention to the shape of the bokeh, aiming for perfect circularity and natural smoothness.

Designed for advanced use in a wide variety of situations, the optical stabiliser (OS) offers a powerful stabilisation effect. The newly designed large hypersonic motor (HSM) offers 1.3 times the torque of its predecessor and exceptionally stable performance even at lower speeds.

Other features include:

  • Mount with dust- and splash-proof design
  • Nikon electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism included
  • Fast AF with full-time manual focus
  • Compatible with Mount Converter MC-11
  • Available SIGMA USB DOCK
  • Available Mount Conversion Service
  • Rounded diaphragm
  • Designed to minimise flare and ghosting
  • High-precision, durable brass bayonet mount
  • Evaluation with SIGMA’s own MTF measuring system “A1”

SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM – the ultra-telephoto zoom lensjpeg-100-400-002A compact body and top performance in one complete package

This ultra-telephoto lens is equipped with an optical stabiliser (OS) system allows the photographer to take photographs in unstable circumstances. The narrow angle of view makes it possible to dramatically compress perspective making the subject appear to jump out of the image, with the area in focus impressively sharp and clear. With the goal of creating an ultra-telephoto lens that is far more accessible, SIGMA incorporated all its latest technologies into SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary to offer compact size, lightweight, and high cost performance of a 70-300mm lens while delivering 400mm telephoto performance.

The new lens retains all of this performance in a compact 400mm ultra-telephoto zoom package with a filter size of just ⌀67mm and weight of just 1,160g. Yet it also comes with the full range of features and functions expected of an ultra-telephoto zoom: optical stabiliser (OS), hypersonic motor (HSM) with updated algorithm for fast autofocus, focus limiter, and more. In addition, this uncompromising specification becomes customisable with the available SIGMA USB Dock accessory.

For quick control of the angle of view, the zoom ring incorporates a push/pull mechanism in addition to the regular twist mechanism. The exclusive lens hood has also been designed to accommodate push/pull zooming and overall lens maneuverability.

With a minimum shooting distance of 160cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8, this lens can shoot either from a distance or up close.

 Other features include:

  •  Dust- and splash-proof mount
  • All-new optical stabiliser (OS) unit with exclusive algorithm
  • Nikon electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism included
  • Rounded diaphragm
  • Designed to minimise flare and ghosting
  • Compatible with the newly developed tele converters

  • High-precision, durable brass bayonet mount
  • Evaluation with SIGMA’s own MTF measuring system “A1”
  • The lens barrel is engraved with the year of release

SIGMA 135mm F1.8 DG HSM – the full-frame telephoto lensjpeg-135mm-f1-8-002Introducing the ultimate 135mm telephoto featuring top-level performance

SIGMA 135mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art is a lens that through its focal length delivers strong perspective compression effect, while its large diameter with F1.8 brightness provides a dramatic bokeh effect. It also offers outstanding image resolution required for 50MP or higher ultra-high-megapixel DSLRs where individual hairs can be discerned in a portrait. This lens is ideal for close-ups and full body shots and performs remarkably at shooting live events and fast motion thanks to its super-fast AF.

SIGMA’S floating system focus mechanism significantly reduces distortion providing sharp photographs from the centre to the edge of the image. The telephoto ring allows the photographer to establish a variety of dramatic perspectives, making composition easy.

When looking at autofocus mode, this lens is a true winner. The large hypersonic motor (HSM) delivers ample torque to the focusing group for outstanding speed, ensuring exceptionally stable performance even at lower speeds. The acceleration sensor detects the orientation of the lens, allowing the autofocus system to respond to varying loads on the focusing group due to gravity. In addition, the focus limiter makes AF highly responsive to distance from the subject for even faster performance.

Other features include:

  • Fast AF with full-time manual override
  • Compatible with Mount Converter MC-11
  • Mount with dust- and splash-proof construction
  • Nikon electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism included
