Heading to Qatar with the Nikon D5

Professional photographer Richard Craig is preparing to harness the extreme high dynamic range features of the state-of-the-art Nikon D5 during a desert shoot.

The 33-year-old from Glasgow has been using the camera he bought from our Glasgow camera store for the past three months and champions the equipment’s technology.

1557_d5_leftHe said: “The ISO quality and technology makes the Nikon D5 stand out. “It allows you to be more flexible in certain locations. I’m heading to the desert; the equipment is particularly good to use in extreme sunlight.”

The D5 boasts a 20.8MP FX-format CMOS image sensor and EXPEED 5 image processing, has the widest native ISO range ever in a Nikon full-frame DSLR : ISO 100 to 102,400 (expandable to Hi-5, ISO 3,280,000), has a redesigned AF system with a 153 focus points, 99 cross-type sensors and a dedicated processor.1557_d5_topIt also boasts 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) video recording and pro-grade video features and 12 fps continuous shooting with full AF and AE performance; up to 200 shots in a single burst.

Richard, who will fly to Doha in Qatar for a bridal and high fashion shoot at the beginning of November, says he chose the location in a bid to stand out. “This will be a high fashion shoot and I was looking to do something different, there’s a lot of us around and it’s important to stand out. The D5 is a highly professional piece. It is a 20.8 megapixel camera and I’ll be taking a 24-70 2.8 lens, which is perfect for live shots, close-up shots and view shots. The clarity is quite stunning.”
The D5 is also great for video makers who go to extremes. D-Movie now enables high-definition 4K/UHD movies to be recorded in-camera and photos and videos can quickly be transferred via NFC, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi so they can be edited on the go.
We look forward to seeing how Richard’s shoot in Doha goes and will be publishing some of his photos in a future blog post when he returns, so keep an eye out!
