Earlier this year we launched the first Calumet Student Photographer of the Year competition. Open to all UK based students we were very impressed by the calibre of entries; there’s a substantial talent burgeoning in our colleges. With over 1000 photos received, the task of judging was not one to be envied.
After much consideration, the shortlist was whittled down and all agreed that one winner stood out. Oliver Henderson of Edinburgh College is the 2015 recipient of the award with this stunning photograph of a model wearing a glamourous red evening dress juxtaposed against the everyday-ness of a car park.
Oliver joined us at The Photography Show at the end of March to receive his trophy from Managing Director Jon Warner at the Student Conference, hosted by Canon ambassador Simeon Quarrie. His winning image also took pride of place on the competition walls at the event held in the NEC and was seen by thousands of visitors. Oliver also receives £11,000 of photographic equipment as the prize.
10 further entries were shortlisted and Jack Visser, Jolanta Ziarnik, Katarzyna Janicka-Wojtowicz, Maria Karpova, Monty Cholmeley, Thomas Craner-Buckley, Ieva Vaitkuviene and Joe Till received a £20 Calumet gift voucher. Sioned Evans – a student of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David – was shortlisted twice with two of her three entries into the competition and wins £40 of Calumet vouchers.
You can see all shortlisted entries at our Student Awards page. All the winning images will be exhibited at Calumet Drummond Street in London from 17 April until 29 May 2015.
Thank you to Canon, Manfrotto, B + W, Lastolite, Veho, Rotolight, Bowens, ColorMunki, DxO Software and Eizo for supporting the competition.
Many congratulations to Oliver and all our shortlisted photographers.
