Fujifilm X-Pro1 Review

CameraThe Fujifilm X-Pro1 is a versatile compact system camera and a snap at (£698.00) with two free Lenses on offer till 31st March 2015.  Seeing this great deal I knew I should write a review of the camera since I purchased my own X-Pro1 a year ago. If you are looking for a good compact DSLR for travel, weddings, or even studio portraiture the X-Pro1 is a good camera to have in your bag.

The superb build quality and design make the X-Pro1 the perfect camera for travel. With a strong light weight magnesium alloy body, the camera is rugged and easy to carry. Taking the camera to New York last Summer I spent one morning capturing some of the city’s iconic buildings.  The X-Pro1’s  superb 16-megapixel sensor mimics the structure of silver halide film delivering brilliantly sharp images. Another feature, and my personal favourite is the camera’s film simulation mode, giving you the ability to adjust the look of your images, to match the attributes of Velvia, Astia and Monochrome film.

The X-Pro1 hybrid view finder and classic style exposure controls; which include a top plate shutter speed dial and a traditional aperture ring, are very easy to use. They do take a bit of getting used to when you first pick up the X-Pro1, so its worth getting as much hands on time with the camera before you start snapping away.

The X-Pro 1 is great for travel photography but is also a wonderful camera to use in the studio. Initially the X-Pro1 feels like it doesn’t belong compared to my Medium Format Mamiya. However, the camera’s amazing dynamic range and  bespoke CMOS Sensor really captures all of the detail. Using the X-Pro1 on several portrait sittings has delivered astonishingly high quality results.

In conclusion, I have no regrets buying the X-Pro1, it’s a camera I’ve been waiting a long time for, an absolute joy to use and the imaging quality is nothing short of sublime. It positively encourages you take more and more pictures because it is small, light and importantly doesn’t draw attention when working in the public. It’s easy to understand why photographers around the world have fallen in love with photography once again, the excitement is real and truly justified.
